Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT) The HRT is a sophisticated laser that can take 3-dimensional photographs of the optic nerve and surrounding retina. This laser camera can take up to 32 layer-by-layer pictures of the surface of the optic nerve up to a depth of 4mm. The HRT images can be used to compute the area, volume and the rim around the optic cup. These measurements can then be used in 2 ways:
